    Pair of Antique French Mid-19th French Large  Cut Steel Earrings
    Circa. 1850                France
    Fabulous pair of cut steel earrings.  Especially the way the bottom of the earring  was set is extraordinary! New sterling silver ear wires were a necessary replacement.
    Cut steel earrings were difficult to produce    All work was done by hand and took days or weeks to produce one pair.   First a form was designed, holes were placed in that form to accept the riveted steel    This pair will glitter in the daylight or night time candlelight or electrical lighting.   Cut steel was popular for hundreds of years due to its similarity to diamonds and was worn to the most elegant soirees
    Cut steel earrings are as dressy or sporty as you wish them to be   They adapt to all clothing and events
